Jesus Christ, the Light in the Midst of Darkness
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not received it.”
– John 1:5
EDCC 2026 took place from 6 to 12 July 2026 in Prague, Czech Republic, under the theme “The Triumphant Light”.
Hosted at TOP HOTEL Praha, the event brought the Deaf Christian community together in a spirit of faith, sharing and fellowship. A gathering centred on light and hope.
At the beginning of his Gospel, John presents Jesus Christ as the light that shines upon humanity. This light reveals God’s love, makes his truth known to us, and leads us to life. Darkness represents sin and the refusal to recognize God and welcome his presence.
The words “the darkness has not received it” express this rejection. Yet the light continues to shine: Jesus reaches out to humanity, even when people turn away from him. The passage goes on to invite us to receive him and believe in his name so that we may become children of God. (John 1:9–12)
This verse nurtures our hope. In the midst of trials, doubts, and discouragement, we can turn to Christ. His presence does not mean that every difficulty disappears, but it invites us to move forward with confidence, guided by his Word.
Welcoming this light also means allowing it to illuminate our choices and relationships: offering a word of encouragement, forgiving, listening, and caring for those around us. Through these acts, we bear witness to the love we receive from God.
